Trump administration secures D.C. public golf courses agreement
The National Links Trust announced late Friday that the Trump administration reached an agreement to keep Washington, D.C.'s three public golf courses open, accessible and affordable. The trust will secure long-term leases for two courses, while operating the third, East Potomac Golf Links, until federal officials undertake its historic restoration.
The Trump administration had sought control of the courses after the trust failed to assure the National Park Service of its funding and capital investment capacity. The trust continued operations amid the dispute, which President Trump linked to plans for upgrading East Potomac into a U.S. Open-caliber venue. Preservation advocates challenged related site work in court after lead contamination from White House debris.
The National Park Service stated the East Potomac course will become a top-tier 18-hole championship layout capable of hosting major tournaments. The trust expressed gratitude to President Trump and anticipation of managing the historic sites. The Washington Commanders foundation is partnering with the trust at nearby Langston Golf Course.
