The Philadelphia Eagles acquired quarterback Andy Dalton from the Carolina Panthers on Wednesday in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round draft pick, bolstering depth behind starter Jalen Hurts.[1][2]

Dalton, 37, spent the 2024 season with the Panthers, where he signed a two-year contract worth up to $18 million in March 2024. He appeared in eight games, starting five, and posted a 1-4 record with 1,033 passing yards, six touchdowns and seven interceptions.[3][4]

The veteran took over as starter early in the 2024 season under head coach Dave Canales after rookie Bryce Young, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, struggled.[1][5]

Dalton previously spent 2011-2019 with the Cincinnati Bengals, where he went 70-61-2 as a starter and led the team to four consecutive playoff appearances from 2011-2014, though they won no postseason games.[6][7]

After leaving Cincinnati, Dalton started four games for the Dallas Cowboys in 2020, six for the Chicago Bears in 2021 and 10 for the New Orleans Saints in 2022, going 4-6 with the Saints.[6][7]

He did not play in the NFL during the 2023 season before joining Carolina.[6][7]

The trade comes after the Panthers signed former Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Kenny Pickett to a two-year deal on March 10, 2025.[8][9]

For the Eagles, Dalton provides competition for Tanner McKee, a 2023 sixth-round pick who served as Hurts' primary backup during the 2024 season.[2][10]

The Eagles open training camp in late July ahead of the 2025 NFL season.[1]
